NANCY B. GARDINER

NANCY B. GARDINER is a partner and is Director of Select Client Services, with administrative responsibility for Hemenway & Barnes’ Family Office Services, Philanthropic Advisory Services and Personal Client Services. As part of her work with Hemenway & Barnes, lawyers and clients, she oversees the administration of The Jane’s Trust. She practiced tax law from 1981 until 1993, first at Herrick & Smith and then at Hemenway & Barnes where she focused on tax and corporate work for nonprofit organizations. From 1993 until 1997 Ms. Gardiner served as Executive Director of The Brookline Foundation, a local education foundation providing financial and professional development support to the Brookline Public Schools. She returned to Hemenway & Barnes in September 1997. In addition, from 1994 to 1998 she was a lecturer at the Carroll School of Management of Boston College, teaching Advanced Topics in Nonprofit Management. Ms. Gardiner has written and lectured on topics related to nonprofit management and family offices.
She has served on several boards of directors, including The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, where she was a member of the Executive Committee and Clerk, The North Bennet Street School and The Brookline Foundation. She currently serves as President of the Trustees of the Winsor School and is a member of the Board of Overseers of The Brookline Foundation. Ms. Gardiner graduated from Harvard College (magna cum laude) in 1978 and from the University Of Virginia School Of Law in 1981, where she was an editor of The Virginia Tax Review.

GIOIA C. PERUGINI is Associate Director of Select Client Services at Hemenway & Barnes. She works with the Director of Select Client Services to administer and coordinate the delivery and marketing of a diverse range of client services. In addition, she works with Hemenway & Barnes lawyers and trustees to advise clients on charitable giving in a variety of fields, including education, the arts, community building, health and the environment. Ms. Perugini is a program officer for Jane's Trust, focusing on arts & culture and the environment. Ms. Perugini graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History in 1993 and completed two years of graduate studies in Art History at Boston University. Prior to joining Hemenway & Barnes in 1999, Ms. Perugini was the coordinator of external relations at the Boston-based nonprofit agency Arts In Progress. During her tenure at Arts In Progress, she served as part of the development team responsible for grantwriting, fundraising and public outreach and was a member of the agency's senior staff Leadership Team, responsible for managing the agency's ongoing organizational development.
Ms. Perugini recently completed a six year term on the Board of Directors of the New England Grassroots Environment Fund, a regional collaboration of funders and activists promoting grassroots environmental activities around New England. She served two years as NEGEF’s Chair. She is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Maine Environmental Funders Network, a project of the Maine Philanthropy Center and the Maine Community Foundation.

BETTY P. ZEDROS works with lawyers and trustees to offer clients a range of services that complement Hemenway & Barnes estate planning and fiduciary practice. She assists clients with personal financial management ranging from bill paying to budgeting decisions. Mindful of the fact that estate planning involves making arrangements for lifetime decisions as well as post mortem planning, Ms. Zedros works with lawyers and trustees to arrange appropriate services and safeguards. Ms. Zedros also works with lawyers and estate administrators during the estate administration process, and can help families arrange for sale or other disposition of tangible property, real estate and other assets. Ms. Zedros has been a member of the Hemenway & Barnes family for over thirty years.

RACHEL L. POHL

RACHEL L. POHL works with Hemenway & Barnes lawyers and trustees to counsel clients on charitable giving in a variety of fields. Ms. Pohl is the senior program officer for Jane’s Trust focusing on health and welfare in northern New England, Massachusetts and Florida. She graduated from Trinity College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1978 and from Columbia University with a Masters in Public Administration, specializing in international resource economics and development policy.
Ms. Pohl serves on the national advisory board of the Medical Legal Partnership for Children, and the advisory committees for the Urban Medical Group and the Health Passport Project in Massachusetts. She is a board member of ArtCorps, an international nonprofit organization that strengthens investments in Central American countries and southern Mexico by pairing artists with non-profits working on public health, and social and environmental justice initiatives. Prior to Hemenway & Barnes, Ms. Pohl worked for Grants Management Associates. She was a consultant for the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and served on the original steering committee of the Health and Environment Funders Group and the New England Grassroots Environment Fund. From 1987 until 1991, she managed the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation’s environment grant program focusing in the southern tier of the United States and Mexico.

MEGAN BRIGGS REILLY is a Program Officer for Select Client Services at Hemenway & Barnes. In addition to working directly with lawyers and trustees, she focuses on education grant making for Jane’s Trust.
Ms. Briggs Reilly graduated from Boston University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and in 2003 with a Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in nonprofit management from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. She was a member of the LeadBoston class of 2007, an effort to strengthen the leadership of mid to senior-level professionals who wish to advance social justice in the region. Prior to joining Hemenway & Barnes, Ms. Briggs Reilly was a Program Associate at the Boston Foundation where she reviewed grant requests and worked on special funding initiatives in the job training and adult education field.

SUSAN M. FISH has been a member of the Hemenway & Barnes community since 1982 and has been in her current position since 1996. As Grants Administrator, Ms. Fish manages the office’s grants tracking software, facilitates grants management, and provides administrative services to foundation and individual clients.
Ms. Fish is a co-chair of the Steering Committee, New England Regional Chapter of the Grants Managers Network, a national association of foundation and corporate professionals responsible for grants management and an affinity group of the Council on Foundations. |
